How to Make Friends Online in India
Moved to a new city, working from home or just want people to talk to? Here's how regular IndianChat users turn random chats into real friendships.
1. Pick the right room
Friendship starts with something in common. If you love cricket, Cricket Chat is full of people who'll argue about the playing XI with you. Poetry lovers gather in Shayari Chat, and film fans in Bollywood Chat. New to a city? Try Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai or Hyderabad rooms.
2. Chat in your own language
Conversations flow more naturally in your mother tongue. We have rooms for Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Punjabi and Bengali.
3. Say hello to the room first
Jumping straight into private messages feels pushy. Greet everyone, join the ongoing topic and let people get to know you.
4. Ask open questions
"What are you watching these days?" gets a far better answer than "hi asl". Curiosity is the fastest way to a good conversation.
5. Choose a memorable nickname
A nickname that hints at your interests – FilterCoffeeFan, TrekkerPune – gives people an easy conversation starter.
6. Show up regularly
Rooms have regulars. Visit around the same time a few days a week and people will start recognising and greeting you.
7. Be kind, be patient
Not every chat clicks, and that's fine. Respect people's time and their "no". Read our chat etiquette guide for the unwritten rules.
8. Keep it in the chat until you trust someone
Real friends won't mind waiting before you share your number or social media. See our safety tips.
9. Join the Friendship room
Friendship Chat exists exactly for this – people there want long-term, genuine connections rather than quick small talk.
10. Have fun
The best friendships happen when nobody is trying too hard. Share jokes in Chat Karo, enjoy the banter in All India Chat and let things grow naturally.
